Living with another person can be difficult and maybe even a little scary at first, but when you find “the one,” you just know it’s forever.

Here are 14 signs your roommate is actually your soul-mate.

1. You finish each other’s sentences.

It may sound corny, but you’ve spent so much time with them you even know what they’re going to say before they say it. Okay, maybe not really. But there’s always that occasion where you just look at each other and know exactly where that conversation is going. It may be telepathy, but it’s probably just love.

2. You have the same sense of humor.

Sometimes, even the dumbest things are funny. Maybe grumpy cat isn’t hilarious to some of your friends, but you can post a picture of him to your roomie’s wall and you know they’re going to die laughing. It’s always nice to have someone validate your sense of humor.

3. You know about their family.

You know that they not only have two sisters and a brother but also a crazy aunt on their father’s side, four grandparents that they love and a family reunion every other year where the craziness ensues. Of course, they also know the exact same about you.

4. You’ve seen them go through hard times.

Maybe it was a breakup, a death in the family or even just a bad test score, but you’ve seen them at their absolute worst, and you don’t think any differently of them for it. You stood by them then and would do the same now if you had to all over again because they’re your best friend, without a doubt.

5. You know their favorite movie.

They always insist on watching “Titanic” no matter how many times you’ve seen it. Of course, they’ll cry every time, even when they know what’s coming, and you roll your eyes every time Kate Winslet’s character cries “come back.” But hey, they’re your roommate, and you know that tomorrow night they’ll be paying you back when you force them to watch the entire “Transformers” series. So I guess you’re even.

6. Actually, you know their favorite everything.

While we’re on the subject, you actually know everything about them: their favorite color, favorite food, favorite drink. You even know their favorite athlete on their favorite sports team. Some might say you know an unhealthy amount about them, but you know they appreciate it when you record “The Tonight Show” because Jennifer Lawrence is on and you know she’s their favorite.

7. You know their schedule.

You know that you only have to be alone for an hour in your room before they come back from their last class of the day, and you make sure to get as much homework done as you can in that hour so you can both sit on the couch when they’re back and watch “Cops” until dinner time.

8. You feel weird eating without them.

For some reason, dinner is an event with the roommate. You both have to go through the ritual of deciding what to eat, then making it (which is always a bigger process than it needs to be) and then the clean up. Of course, this ritual just isn’t the same when the other isn’t there, so you really cherish the times that they are. Macaroni again? Sounds good to me!

9. You spend your nights the same way.

Whether it be going out to the bars with a group of friends or chillin’ in the room with the roomie and watching Netflix, you both usually have the same idea of how you want to spend your night. Neither of you can seem to pass up old Disney Channel movies, and no one is going to complain about that. “The Luck of the Irish” is on again?! Okay!

10. Your disagreements blow over quickly.

Of course, roommates are bound to have their fights; it would be crazy to live so close to someone and never have a disagreement. However, the fights blow over quickly and you’re right back to discussing the next death on “The Walking Dead” in no time.

11. You have codes.

You can talk about almost anything in public, because you both know what the other is referring to just by the look on their face. Whether it be the fact that they now sell cookie dough Oreo’s or that there’s a hilarious person that just passed you in Walmart, you understand each other on a level other people never will.

12. You’ve had extensive discussions about your pets.

Pets are life, and your roomie knows it. You swap cute stories about your dogs, or funny stories about your crazy neighbor’s new alpaca to the point that you know them by heart. It almost feels like you share the pet the way you talk about them to each other, and there isn’t a friendship much stronger than that.

13. You can’t wait to tell them stories.

This kid is standing across the street singing his heart out to the headphones in his ear and you’ve been able to interpret that it’s “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea. You rush home at almost twice the speed because you know your roommate is going to appreciate it just as much as you do and you can’t wait to act out his atrocious dance moves.

14. You have inside jokes.

Laughing is actually both of your favorite pastimes. You can both just look at a picture and laugh until you cry because “that one time” and “you can’t even.” You may confuse, and probably annoy, everyone around you when you lose it, but who cares? The only person whose opinion you care about is laughing right alongside you.

When you come across the right one, roommates are more than just someone to live with. You’re going to have this person in your life for a long time to come, so it’s best to let the laughter take over and share these good times with them; you won’t regret it for a second.
