The 4 Beauty Tips You Need When You're Hungover

By Kristen Peuvion on September 10, 2014

Being hungover is just another part of college, at least for most people. We all have those nights when we drink a little too much and then aren’t feeling our best the next morning.

But as college students, just because we’re hungover doesn’t mean the whole day stops for us. We still have countless different things to do throughout the day that we don’t have time to be hungover! So what’s a college student to do? Simply stay in night after night?

The answer doesn’t have to be staying in. After all, who wants to skimp on their social life during college? These are the best four years of our lives–we should be celebrating!

But for those of us who still need to be fully functional in the morning, there is some hope. Doing these simple beauty tricks the morning after a big night out may not have you feeling better, but they’ll definitely have you looking like you got a full, refreshing night of sleep, instead of a night full of alcohol.

1. Wash Your Face.

Often times, after a night out, our nightly beauty routine goes out the window. We either book it straight to bed or straight to the fridge for a late night drunken snack and removing our makeup or washing our face is the last thing on our minds.

And even if you did remember to wash your face, chances are you didn’t do the best job. So when you come out of your drunken haze in the morning, the first thing you need to do is wash off all the remnants of the night before.

Clean and Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser will get the job done. It contains Vitamin C and Ginseng to help wake you up and the little beads inside of the gel will help scrub away all of the makeup remnants from your big night out. After you wash your face with this cleanser you’ll have a clean, refreshed face ready for what the day has to bring.

2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

We all know that alcohol is super dehydrating which takes a toll on us visibly. After you wash your face, a top notch moisturizer should be your next weapon of choice when combating your hangover.

A good recommendation would be Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster. Not only will it give your skin the moisture and glow it needs, but because this moisturizer has a fresh orange scent, like your face wash, it will help wake you up even more.

3. It’s All About The Eyes.

Another dead giveaway that you’re clearly hungover: your eyes. Since alcohol is so dehydrating, your eyes are going to look puffy, red and otherwise obvious that you were drinking the night before. The first step is getting rid of the redness. A few drops of your go-to eye drops should do the trick.

Getting rid of the puffiness may be a bit more difficult, however. To do this, you’ll want to start with an eye serum. Clinique’s All About Eyes serum will help to minimize the appearance of puffiness and redness around your eyes, which is just what you’re looking for. Just pat a little bit of the serum around the puffy areas and it’ll do its job throughout the day.

A couple more tricks to brighten up your dull, red, puffy eyes include concealer and primer. Concealer will work to brighten up your under eye area and primer will work to brighten your lids.

Buy a shade of concealer that is slightly brighter than your normal skin to hide the dark circles you may have. It may look weird without any other makeup on, but once you apply your normal foundation, you’ll look completely normal.

4. Try a Bold Lip Color.

Now, this may sound counter-intuitive. After all, why would you want to bring more attention to yourself when you’re not feeling or looking your best?

However, when your face and eyes are clear indicators that you spent your whole night drinking, anything that can distract from that should be welcome.

A bold lip color is the perfect distraction. Everyone will be looking at your lips rather than your bloodshot, puffy eyes and dry skin. A pop of red is a classic choice, but if you’re really going for bold try a bright pink or orange and no one will look twice at your eyes or skin.

So next time you’re going out and have a full day ahead of you, don’t worry too much about the dreaded hangover. You might not feel your best, but with these simple beauty tips, you’ll be looking your best and have everyone fooled!
